I was crossing the median between Mills and MDCL today, when a campus security car raced through the stop sign without even slowing down. The lights were on, but no siren. It was 12:20pm and there were TONS of students. I always look before crossing, but even if the other students did, it was so bright, it wouldn't be impossible to not see the lights.
Anyway, I'm wondering why the car wouldn't have the sirens on?? He continued to speed through the main parking lot (infront of the student centre) without sirens and not slowing at stop signs.

Even the RCMP are supposed slow down to a stop and then only proceed through an intersection once they've determined its clear. This policy was put in place a few years ago after several people were killed by police officers who drove through intersections. As example see this news story here:
http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Mou...673/story.html
"The RCMP changed its policy in 2008, requiring police cars to stop at intersections before proceeding through a red light during emergency calls."
So in short, the on campus officers should at least be slowing down before proceeding through a stop sign. They should not be driving through at anywhere near full speed.
If you're concerned about this, you should consider filing a complaint with security as well as with the Ombuds's office if you don't get a satisfactory response from security.
