i'm thinking of taking the social science course about Canadian children.,

I can't tell you about the course but I can say that I wouldn't really suggest it. There's a big difference between 1st and 2nd year in expectations and when you're still getting used to the expectations of being a 1st year I would caution against throwing a 2nd year course into that.

Just because they are full doesn't mean you won't be able to take them. During the Drop/Add period MANY people drop courses and you can join it. Usually after the first lecture people start dropping. What you can do is attend the lectures even though you're not registered. If you still can't get in during the Drop/Add period go talk to the prof, if you show interest and tell them that you've been attending lectures, etc, etc they'll most likely create a seat for you or send you to someone who can.

I took that course in first year as an elective - it's a great course with little-to-no work involved. I would highly recommend it!
