Car insurance
So I just found out last weekend that my godfather might be gifting me his old car. Anyone know any good insurance plans? Anything for students or something? I heard about engineers getting discounts because they're part of some society or something, is there something similar for other science students?

TD meloche monnex is the cheapest for me. They give %20 discount ( as I remember) for Mcmaster students no one could beat the rate. best thing is to shop around you might find something cheaper.
you can get a free quote from their website : http://www.melochemonnex.com /en/home

you can use kanetix.com to do a search for car insurance quotes. They'll give you a bunch from different companies so you can compare/choose.

Where do you live? You're going to get screwed by insurance and have a terrible rate, especially if you have no/little insurance history (I'm assuming that you're probably 19-20 years old). But location is a huge factor when determining price.

If your main address is in Toronto, you're basically screwed. Toronto has one of the highest rates in the country.

I'm paying 300/month here in Hamilton, which is still cheap compared to Toronto.

ouch.
you'd be good listing your home address if it isn't hamilton or toronto. My boyfriend's home address is guelph and he pays $158/month

I'll be living in Toronto (I think), unless I get some job/internet opportunity elsewhere. But yeah, 21 year old male, so I'm expecting rates to be quite high. Thats why any discount at all would go a lon way.
