Choosing Electives
I know it is bit early for this but I want to get all my courses figured out so I can just enter them when registration time comes around. I'm taking Commerce I and already have a set number of courses I have to take. This leaves me with 3 electives.

I already chose to take intro to programming because I'm interested in it, but I don't know what else to choose. I was thinking about taking a communications course and a course in digital image. Do you think these courses would benefit my commerce courses? And do you have any suggestions for good electives that would benefit the commerce program.

Thanks in advance.

The course reviews section can help you find out more about specific courses you're interested in, as well as course breakdown, other peoples' opinions, etc.

Do you have a list you must choose from?

Not for electives. There are only about 4 or 5 courses I can't take because of my mandatory courses.

Just pick things that look vaguely interesting to you - first year is supposed to be about exploring and making sure you are where you want to be.

Look over that international/cross-cultural/language menu in the calendar.

By the end of the commerce program you need to take 2 courses from that menu. Taking one or two now would free up your electives for upper years.

Also note that for Anthro/Geo/Religious Studies, if you're taking it as the course from "course list 1", it doesn't count.

I remember when I was excited xD.

University is an amazing experience- in my opinion, but it can bring your spirits down if you're not mentally prepared to do the work or handle the bad marks, assuming you get any. Otherwise, SO MUCH BETTER than high school. More freedom, more independence, more everything xD.

As for the electives, take what you're interested in. I can't stress that enough. You're bound to do well in it at the end. Yes, there are some bird courses, but if you don't enjoy them, then there's no point in taking them.

anthony says thanks to kunaltandan for this post.

Thanks. I plan on taking mostly courses I'm interested in but I want to cross out the International/Cross-Cultural/Language Menu too. I was interested in taking ENGLISH 1BB3 CULTURAL STUDIES AND CONSUMER CULTURE but I can't find it on the course calendar. Any idea where I could find it?

If you look under the list of English courses in the calendar, it looks like both 1B03 and 1BB3 are no longer offered, and they instead have 1CS3 - Studying Cultures: A critical Introduction.
