Not in terms of how it works..but more so as how it's set up - is there a special cafeteria that was serve a buffet style meals or are they more set up to mass produce a unique meal that's the same for everyone on that day?

It pretty much like a food court. There are places all over campus and basically your student card has your meal plan money on it and you use to pay for everything. So you choose your own meals. Like I said its like buying stuff from the food court at the mall.

Hi!

Well, to pay for your food at a cash register you use your student card to swipe (like a debit card), and the money is automatically deducted.
There are places on campus (La Piazza and Commons) which have salad bars, but we don't really have a "buffet" kind of arrangement. Instead, for example, at Commons, there is a Pillers Deli, Chef's table, Healthy Choices etc.., where you can get food from each (usually a styrofoam container or plate) and then you pay at the cash register.

Hope that answered your question.

Okay thanks I was more asking b/c I have mild food allergies - i.e. too mild to actually find a doctor to sign off on it and so no special request is really needed for me - but how easy is it to find a place that will be making something that is relatively healthy and/or avoiding certain ingredients like dairy products for example?

Im sure you'll find something healthy and allergen free for yourself. Theres a lot of choice on campus. You can contact the hospitality people and ask [email protected] ca. Being allergic to milk and cheese must suck (no cheese cake).

Sometimes the Healthy Choice is the obvious one, and at the Food service locations there are always healthy options.

To ensure that you are avoiding a particular ingredient its always best to ask. You never know and plus the food might have come in contact with the concerned ingredient

Hope that helps

Theres a lot more information in the Food & Meal Plan forums
