Course Selection: labs and tutorials
i started taking down all my required courses, days available, times available, etc. with regards to the lectures. i noticed that under the list of lectures they have the list of labs and then the list of tutorials. how does this work? do i get to pick and one lab and any one tutorial? or are there specific ones that i have to sign up for depending on which lecture i chose? i'm so confused :(

You will have a core component(s) of your course. You will pick that first. From there, you will see the tutorials and labs available to you.
If there are multiple core sections, there will be core and tutorial sections that correspond with the lecture session.
For example, for Course 1A03 there are sections 1-4 (C01-C04), tutorials 1-28 (T01-T28), and labs 1-8 (L01-L08).
C01 has tutorials 1-7 and labs 1-2
C02 has tutorials 8-15 and labs 3-4
C03 has tutorials 16-23 and labs 5-6
C04 has tutoorials 24-28 and labs 7-8.
You need to pick a lecture session that also has tutorial and lab components that fit the rest of your schedule, and you can only take the ones that fit with your lecture session.

Is the academic counselling going to help us in deciphering the mystery of the master timetable or not?

Most likely, yes. Provided there is more than one tutorial section that shouldn't be an issue.

I'm a little bit confused about this whole labs and tutorial thing! So if I have one lecture and one tutorial for a course, that means i have two classes for that course a week? So I'd have ten classes to go to a week?

Generally, Lecture classes are either two hours or three hours a week. Then on top of that you have yours labs/tutorials which can range from 1 hour to 4 hours.
So for one course, you would usually have a minimum of three hours worth of class to go to a week.

Yes. It isn't like highschool. You have lecture AND tutorial/labs each week for each course. Some courses have only lectures, some have both. So you'll be going to multiple lectures and tutorials each week for the same class.

okay that makes sense, but then i look at the 1st year bio class on the timetable and it has CO2 CO3 and CO4, but it also has LO1-LO56 and T1-T56, so how does that work?

Biology first year is a big class. So instead of having specific core sections with specific labs/tutorials that you can only choice from.
You pick either C01-C04, whichever you like. Then pick one from L01-L56. Pick one tutorial from T1-T56.
That's all. and you are done. its really not that too complicated.

ahah i think, so if it lists a bunch of core lectures and then just has a bunch of labs/tutorials listed under all of the lectures then I can pick any lecture, any tutorial and any lab i want
BUT lets say that CO1 has a list of labs/tutorials listed right under it, and CO2 has a list under it, then you can only chose from the list under your respected tutorial
is that right? ahah

I am a bit confused by some of these responses. It has been my experience that, upon chosing a course (in science anyway) you are then given a lecture/lab/tutorial section that will fit your timetable. Of course, you can actually attend any lecture or tutorial that you want (provided that, in your tutorial section, attendance is not being taken, and you don't do things for marks, like participation) Labs, however, you are given a lab section/date, and if that doesn't suit you, you have to formally arrange to switch lab sections (there is only so much space in a lab, and too many people in one section can be dangerous)
