CSD Note-taking...
So I'm the note-taker for a second year psych course. Just wondering if I actually get anything outta doing this (other than "knowing that I helped someone")?
I've heard a bunch of different things from profs last year ranging from $_$ to things like reference letters?? One even said you get absolutely nothin...anyone have any clue?

It's a volunteering program: http://maclife.mcmaster.ca/csd/clock...aking_info.cfm

What's in it for me?
As a volunteer notetaker, you have the opportunity to enrich the life of a fellow student who, because of his or her disability, has difficulty taking their own notes during class. By sharing the notes that you are taking during class, you are helping to provide access to lecture material for all students.
Not only are you helping your fellow students, your own notes will improve. Notetakers often report that their own notes and, in turn, their grades, improve in those courses in which they take notes for another student. Notetakers are eligible to receive a letter of reference for their exceptional contributions to this program.

I think helping out another student is rewarding in itself.

If you want money you could always sell your notes.

The last time I did notetaking for CSD (2 years ago), you got a $75 gift card for Titles if you gave them typed notes, or a $50 gift card for Titles if you gave them handwritten notes.
They also give you a reference letter, saying "So and so volunteered with CSD and they helped take notes for blah blah blah. Signed, the CSD at Mac"
I just looked over the CSD site and I don't think that's the case anymore. It seems like they just write you a reference letter - no Titles gift cards.

I don't really care about the money, but I asked because I explicitly remember my chem prof announcing that "CSD needs not-takers and if you're gonna take notes anyways, why not get paid to do it". And money is always a great motivator

True, but the guy I'm e-mailing my notes to isn't that grateful. I didn't even get a 'thanks' or anything...

The program is being discontinued at the end of this year.
They stopped giving money out last year - This year you only get reference letters.

Also, the guy you're helping might have autism or Asperger's Syndrome. That's why he's not talking to you.

I realize that, but if he's able to e-mail me and ask for notes, I don't think he would have any problem expressing gratitude either. But w/e.

He's doing the douche a favor, so why not? That's the bare minimum he's entitled to.
