DC++ questions
I've been browsing the forums for any threads concerning DC++ this year, but none so far have totally given me any answers for what I've been looking for (unless my brain is already fried at 10 in the morning)

Anyways, I was on-campus last year and fell in love with DC++ and how it fills up my external hard drive so amazingly. This year I'm off campus and was wondering how exactly (or even if) I can get DC++ from my new place. I remember sometime last year DC++ being opened up with a SOCS hub or something; is that even true and if it is, how does one go about doing that? Secondly, I find myself on campus with a good 2-3 hours between a few of my classes, and not being bothered enough to go home. Is there a way I can connect to DC++ on campus, like from Mills library or the student center or something?

I'm not incredibly picky as to how the speed may be a bit slower than what I was used to on campus (Whidden love <3). The way I figure it, anything is better than the hours it takes me to download an episode or movie off Frostwire.

Any and all helpful input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance (:

you can't connect to the hub on campus unless you're directly plugged into a res. its a shared network. there is an off campus one, though i don't know if it's the same address. if you use it in your house off campus, you'll be using your own bandwith, so be aware of that.

Yes you can connect to the same hub as the on-campus students.

As for speeds, it'll depend on your internet provider. Don't be surprised if it's not that much better than getting it off other sharing programs.

For off-campus students, I recommend using torrents to download media content off the internet. However I made DC++ available to off-campus students for school resource sharing purposes. The max speeds you'll probably get while on DC++ off campus is approximately 100-200 kbps max.

I want to reiterate what Jeff said: there is no "different" SOCSHub. Only a uniform MacHub that allows both on and off campus users to connect to it. You will be able to connect to DC++ while in a library, etc. however you won't be able to do much in terms of downloading or uploading files from people. You are certainly free to try though because we've gotten rare cases of people being able to download while in the library.
