I adored this film. I, like many others, expected a wham-bam-goodbye bad guy type of summer blockbuster. But was pleasantly surprised. Wickus was the perfect character in my eyes. He represented what many people are actually like.

SPOILER ALERT

He didn't show constant bravery, selflessness or heroism, he wasn't some romanticized ideal, and to that I say hallelujah. He was selfish, self-centered, bigoted, pathetic, scared, and success-thirsty man. (Basically embodied all of the negative characteristics that many people see on a daily basis and don't blink an eye at.) Whose only redeeming quality *at the beginning* of the film, was that he really loved his wife.

I went from hating him, to thinking he was pathetic, to admiring him. His entire story was ironic and intense.

I loved it!!!!!
