What to do if course's prerequisite is only offered in the same term....continued
Okay, I need to take Physics 1B03 and Math 1LS3. Unfortunately, Physics 1B03 in term 2 is full, and I have to take Math 1LS3 either concurrently or before I take Physics 1B03. The way my other courses are set out means that I only have one available course slot in first term. If I take both of these courses first term then I'm going to have 6 courses in my first term in university and 4 in my second and quite frankly the work load I'll have in my first term as a result scares me. Is there anything I can do? If I email the science faculty would they care enough to open a slot for me in term 2?

The thing is, I need to take 2 biology courses, 2 chemistry courses, 2 psych courses, and 1 full year french course. I can't take two of the same subject in one of the terms because of how the prerequisites work out.
So my first term is french 1A06, biology 1M03, chemistry 1A03, psychology 1X03...
and my second term is french 1A06 (continued), biology 1A03, chemistry 1AA3, and psychology 1XX3.
That makes four classes for each term that are set in stone.

Hm.. you saying that the class will open up relieves me a bit, so thank you. But I don't want to jeopardize my second year program choice by just expecting that the class will open up on its own..

Your manner of typing and grammar skills leave a little to be desired, so forgive me if I'm not quick to trust you. ;p

It's true that courses will generally open. People drop classes all the time. Physics in particular I found that a lot of people were scared off by stories from first term students and opt to take it in the summer (which is another option, by the way.) Lots of programs require physics 1B03 but I believe they will conditionally accept you as long as you complete it by the end of second year (at least, the biochemistry streams will and that's what I'm familiar with).

Another thing to note is that you do not actually need space out bio 1A03 and bio 1M03. They say it is "strongly recommended" that you do, but lots of people take both at the same time and come out no worse for wear. They're different courses that teach completely different concepts. Put in the time and you'll be fine. So if that helps, it's also an option.

You could also email the Faculty of Science, yes, but they probably won't open a seat for you - at least, not now. They also know that people will drop. Maybe if you go closer to the term 2 deadline they will do something for you.

For now your best bet is really just to wait a bit and see if anyone drops if you're determined to take the two biology courses separately.

dragalie, LoungeAct all say thanks to Quiver for this post.

The science faculty won't open up a seat for you for a couple of reasons - one that people have already mentioned is that seats will open up before January, and in the incredibly unlikely scenario that it doesn't, then you can take it in the summer. Another reason is that the science office keeps insisting life sci students don't need to take 1B03 in first year, even though in many cases it's smarter to do it that way. A third reason is that you don't actually HAVE to take french.

A seat will open up, though. Just keep checking periodically throughout the term.

Oh, also... Does this mean I should just drop Physics 1B03 for now? And add it later in second term if possible, or take it in summer school?

Doesn't matter. You don't require a minor to graduate, therefore any courses you're taking for your minor are not considered requirements.

You can drop physics on solar for now and pick it up later, or you can take a replacement course (such as physics 1L03) in the meantime so that your fees and courseload stay the same.
