Double Degrees
Hey,
i just started my second year in engineering and did not get into chem eng, as i had planned. however, i did get into my second choice, which is materials engineering and was wondering if it is possible to get 2 degrees in engineering. i figure if i chose my technical electives properly i would just have to complete the missed courses in an extra year or so. if anyone could help me out i would really appreciate it. thnx.

I'm not sure how engineering works, but in science you can do a second degree in an extra year or two, so I would assume that it would be okay!

When I was applying for a second degree the application stated you could not apply for a second degree in Health Sci, Business or Engineering. That may however just be at Mac.
I would recommended you talk to an academic adviser ASAP to see what your options are.

A better option might be to try and switch into your desired major instead. You should inquire about possibly still getting into your chosen stream.

Hey I was wondering why you can't get a second degree in those programs.

There may also be stipulations regarding receiving the same degree twice (ie. a B.Sc in Chem and a B.Sc in Physics).
As has been said, speak to an academic advisor familiar with the Engineering program to definitive answers and explanations. (:

Your best bet would be to talk to the academic advisor, pretty sure it's Jeanne Hopkins, but if you just go to JHE A214 and ask at the front desk they will tell you who will need to make an appointment with and they can do it right away.
I'm pretty sure that you cannot do two majors in engineering. You have a couple pf other options though. If you did not get into chem because of marks you can improve your marks over the year and submit a letter asking to be switched into chem eng or another thing you could do if you decide that you like materials engineering is to join engineering and society and work towards getting a minor in chem.
