Dropping a Course
I am in 3rd year Hons Econ and am taking ECON 3U03.
The last midterm was ridiculously hard worth 19%. For sure I did not pass
What is the affect of a cancelled course on grad school applications? (Specific law school or mba)
Do you suggest that I should drop the course and take it with another prof because it is his teaching style that is causing the problem, and not just me, most people in the class have trouble understanding.

Law school is ridiculously competitive. I don't know if cancelling a course and retaking it or a low grade would hurt more. It depends how low your grade actually is, I guess, and what the other marks on your transcript are like.
If you feel that the material is important to learn and you're not learning anything now, then maybe you should re-take it. Would you be able to guarantee you can re-take it with a different prof?
The admissions committees really won't care that your prof sucks. You're going to encounter more horrible profs in your life, it's a matter of learning to deal with it.

Gupta says thanks to starfish for this post.

I will be able to re-take it for sure with another prof. The class average on the last test was guaranteed less than 50%. I have never cancelled a course and am pretty nervous about it.

Here's the deal with 3u03, it's going to be hard regardless of who the professor is. I took it last year with yamaguchi who will be back next year and the averages were similar. I would not cancel it, largely because economics courses with low averages end up getting a huge bump. The same goes for letandre.

Kudos likes this.

Who are you taking it with? It's going to be a hard class no matter who teaches it, and missing even one class will set you back. Could try taking it in the summer, it's usually offered. But remember that it will most likely be curved, I'm almost positive it was for us because I got a grade I'm not sure I deserved.
