Engineering I electives and courseload!
Hello, I have recently registered for courses on SOLAR, and since there's still a few days left to make any changes, I was wondering whether it is recommended or not to take 2 electives first year?
I will be taking microecon 1b03, and am thinking of also taking macroecon 1bb3.

I am a first year engineering student, and with the addition of the 2 electives I will have 18 units in first term, and 19 units second term. Is it recommended that I take the electives early on, or will the course load be too much?

Another thing to add is that both of the electives (1BO3 first term, 1BB3 second term) are evening courses. Is this fine or should i try to change it to a day course?

And for further confirmation, what courses should I take separate from each other, or specific ones that I should take first/second term? I know a lot of people recommend keeping 1C03 and 1D04 apart.

Thanks in advanced!

The sooner you get ur electives done the better. Its really up to you when u wanna take them. You could even take them over the summer.

Yes it would help easy your first year course load, but 1st year econ is a bird so it wont be too bad. Personally I would rather have them in the day, but then again to each his own. I find it tough to sit and listen for 3 hours. Do what suits your schld best and you think you can manage.

Lastly, keep those classes apart. T2: D04 and T1: C03, P03.

Welcome to Mac Eng!

One thing you need to learn - and your life will be much easier once you internalize this - is that what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another. Something that could be the right move for another person could be the wrong move for you.

Some people are fine taking their electives in first year; others really struggle to adapt to university and find the workload to be too much. Before starting university, it's hard to predict which situation you'll find yourself in. If it was me, I would start off taking the electives in first year, and then if it was too overwhelming, drop one or both of them.

Same thing goes with evening courses. Some people do their best work in the evening; others are too tired or don't have the attention span.

Keep in mind if you put C03 and P03 together you will have two big projects during that entire semester. You might want to spread it out depending on how comfortable you are with programming (D04)

I thought it was D04 and C03 that you spread out because of final projects? And i've never programmed before... so i downloaded that python pdf and might read over it this summer.

No, D04 doesnt have a project, just labs and tutorials. Its quite straightforward but some people just dont have an eye for programming and struggle. Starting this summer would definitely help.

ok then, so it would be better to switch my DO4 and CO3 around then. I guess that would be more ideal, though i now have 19 units T1 and 18 T2.

Inow have D04 and P03 in T1 and C03 in T2, this would be ideal?

Yes, do yourself an immense favour and separate 1P03 from 1C03.

The only danger about taking electives as night courses is that you might have an 8:30 lecture that morning, which makes for a long day. Econ 1B03 and 1BB3 aren't hard, but staying awake in lectures is generally recommended practice.
