External Hard Drives
I'm looking into buying an external hard drive for my laptop.
After browsing online for hours and reading many reviews, I am leaning towards the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 500GB External Portable Hard Drive. I really don't know much when it comes to computers...so should I get it? My requirements: -- 500GB or more --preferably less than $110 --decent Mbps transfer (60-100)
If not, then any recommendations of other hard drives?

I bought this 2TB 3.5" HDD for $120 over the summer. Now it's $100. all i had to do is buy a case for it which can generally get pretty expensive but it depends what case you go for. But I love it, never had any issue with it.

It is not good for you if you want something that is portable, because it does require a power supply to operate. I use it mainly for backup so portability wasn't an issue. 2.5" drives are generally more expensive too.

Always check dell.ca for great deals. They're offering free shipping on all orders too!

I would sacrifice the slightly larger capacities and speed for portability and the lack of external power. 2.5 " drives are just better.

That Seagate drive will be on sale for $39.99 on December 11 as a door crasher. Lineups might be long though.

Check out Lacie products, I just got a Lacie Rikiki
http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ... c57a01d3ben02
and it's fantastic. It's not too expensive, and they look so cool! The products also get very high reviews and the Rikiki is probably the smallest hard drive you have ever seen.

The doorcrasher deals are usually kept secret by Staples, but this one has been leaked. If you can wait until the 11th, try to grab this, I sure will.

That's pretty impressive considering how many drives usually stop working after a couple of months.

I've yet to have a hard-drive ever fail..... well, on its own at least. I've dropped a few, which caused them to stop working :p.
