Failed Courses
I was wondering that if you had failed 2 courses (F) but still managed to have a decent CA (5.8), would you have to re-take these courses again?? and if you did have to re-take, could you substitute different courses instead?

p.s. these courses were electives- NOT mandatory for my program.

No, you don't have to retake them if they weren't required. If there are other electives that can fulfill your elective requirement, it's fine to do that. Those two failures, however, will still count towards your cumulative average.

If its mandatory, you need to retake. But since its an elective, forget it. But I think you still have to makeup the units for it, by taking other electives.

That's correct. If you plan on graduating in 4 years, you'll have to make up those credits during summer school (or overload but I believe you need a 7 and permission from the dean).
