The CA is calculated using all marks/units
attempted so if you fail a class then retake it and pass (or vice versa), or upgrade a mark, all marks are counted towards your CA.
ie You have a 5, 8, 10, 7 and 9. You raise the 5 to a 10 when you retake it.
Your CA before is: [
(5x3)+(8x3)+(10x3)+(7x3)+( 9x3)]/(5x3) = 7.8
Your CA after is: [
(5x3)+(10x3)+(8x3)+(10x3)+(7x3)+( 9x3)]/(6x3) = 8.2 but only 15/18 units count towards your degree. (if you neglect to include the original 5, your CA would be an 8.8)
--> same thing for previously failed courses

If I'm not mistaken, pass/fail courses are usually 0 units (ie Commerce 1PA0, Engineer 1A00, etc) so they aren't counted in the calculation of your CA or SA.
