failed courses and your CA
i know that if you fail a class and then just make up the units, the failed class still counts towards your CA.
What if you fail a class but retake it and pass it (or if you happened to retake a class in hopes of boosting your mark and you failed) ...does the 0 count towards your CA as well?

As far as I know, if you retake a class that you failed, they'll average your two marks. So if you have a 0 from first time, and the second time you get a 10, then your mark for that class will show up as a 5. But your transcript will still say that you have failed a course. At least thats what I have heard.
It would be better to speak with an academic advisor about this. They will be able to give you much more details and help you out properly.

What about Pass/Fail courses? What does failing them do to your CA?

The CA is calculated using all marks/units attempted so if you fail a class then retake it and pass (or vice versa), or upgrade a mark, all marks are counted towards your CA.

ie You have a 5, 8, 10, 7 and 9. You raise the 5 to a 10 when you retake it.

Your CA before is: [(5x3)+(8x3)+(10x3)+(7x3)+( 9x3)]/(5x3) = 7.8
Your CA after is: [(5x3)+(10x3)+(8x3)+(10x3)+(7x3)+( 9x3)]/(6x3) = 8.2 but only 15/18 units count towards your degree. (if you neglect to include the original 5, your CA would be an 8.8)
--> same thing for previously failed courses

If I'm not mistaken, pass/fail courses are usually 0 units (ie Commerce 1PA0, Engineer 1A00, etc) so they aren't counted in the calculation of your CA or SA.

Hold on...

Yeah, all marks are counted towards your CA in the same manner, according to the # of credits it's worth. The two grades you got for the same course ARE NOT averaged out.

Both marks count.

If you got a 0 in a 4 unit course. Your C.A is 0.
If you took it again and you got a 12, your C.A is now [(4x12) + (0x4)] / (4+4) = 6
