A Few Questions
I had a few questions.

1) When picking up OSAP do you need to make an appointment or just show up? I heard you needed an appointment.

2) I have a class during faculty night and I don't know what to do. A lot of people said no one goes to class first week so I'm kinda stuck between going to class and going to faculty night.

Thanks

1) No appointment needed

2) Is it a night class? If it is then you'll want to attend since there is a large probability that there will be a lecture. I think the first class is always good to go to unless you already know the breakdown of the course, what is to be expected from you, when tutorials and labs start, etc..

I think I will go get the syllabus but would there be tutorials on the first day? If not then I can get off a bit early.

There shouldn't be any tutorials or labs this week since it's only a 2 day week. Always go to your class first before tutorials unless your professor posted a notice on Avenue (or LearnLink if you have a Faculty of Health Science course).

The advice I've always heard given in this situation is to skip night class and go to faculty night.

I've never been in the situation so I can't say whether or not its sound advice but Faculty Night is a really great experience.

If I were you I would go to Faculty Night unless it is a class you feel you'll really need to attend the first lecture. Usually in the first lecture you are given a course outline and go through basics/introduction material that you can catch up on and/or get at the second lecture. Remember, first week or so is add/drop period so students will be leaving and joining the class within the first 2-3 lectures. Also, my guess is that a lot of your classmates will be going to faculty night as well.

Faculty Night is a fantastic way to meet others in your faculty and socialize/network. It is a great time, and for a first-year student is something I wouldn't want to miss!

If you do decide to not attend faculty night, hopefully we'll see you out at the MacInsiders Social next Thursday... you'll be able to meet others in your faculty and network there as well!
