Honestly if you want something with USB 3.0, the laptop RankNullity posted is hard to beat! ( http://www.amazon.com/N53SV-XE1-15-6...ref=pd_cp_pc_1)
EDIT: damn, I just read this on that laptop description: Shipping: Currently, item can be shipped only within the U.S.

I'm currently looking at laptops as well and I know that I want a sandy bridge core i5, 13" - 14" screen, graphics dont really matter cuz i don't game, backlit keyboard if possible, usb 3.0, so basically a new higher end laptop, and i definitely want thin, light, and long battery life...
I've been looking at the refreshed HP envy 14 and the sony vaio SB, any thoughts?
thanks!

Is USB 3.0 a necessity? Honestly you can just buy a PCI express card that has USB 3.0 if you really want to...

Do other components other than SSD have a likelihood of becoming 'mainstream' too? I just wanna get the best bang for my dolla.

yes it will eventually come mainstream iguess cause of its high performance however the longevity of ssd's is much shorter compared to HDD thus i'd wait for ssd's and just stick to a high RPM HDD

USB3.0 has potential, but its going slow, and it will be a couple years before it is everywhere.

And there's always the potential of it losing steam to Thunderbolt...

Ya, don't bother with SSDs unless you're willing to do some serious research into tweaking settings to maximize their longevity.

They are suppose to have longer life than HDD, basically because there are no moving parts, so maximizing longevity isnt an issue

Well in terms of durability - ya, they're basically indestructible compared to hard-drives. The number of writes before failure is actually much less than a mechanical hard-drive though. If you don't limit the number of writes (turn off paging, move temp folder to RAM. etc) the thing will be showing write failures within a couple years.
Write performance/longevity is kind of a big issue with flash memory right now - hence why trying to run an OS off of an SD card typically kills the card in months.
