HELP First year Courses
For term 1 I think I will take Political Science 1GO6(Always),Sociolog y 1AO6(Colavechia), Labour Studies 1CO3(Mills), Aging & Society(Joshi) and either Peace Studies(Doubleday) or linguistics 1AO3(Moro).

For term 2 -Polysci 1GO6, Socio 1AO6, Music 1AA3 or ENG 1AO3, Soc 2ELO, Philosophy 1BO3(Rodde)

Can I get your opinions on these courses and suggestions. I want a smooth and relatively easy first year.

I was also looking French 1ZO6, German 1ZO6, Russian 1ZO6.
Econ. 1BO3(Subject doesn't interest me and I'm terrible at math so am unsure)
Health Studies
Communcation Studies(Sevign)

Have you looked in the course review section of this website. I know a number of the courses you listed have reviews ,and it should help you in making a decision

As Aelya said definitely check out the course reviews, pretty much all of the courses you are interested in have a review here: http://www.macinsiders.com/forumdisp...s-98.html?f=98

I would suggest you also come up with some backups for your course plan- as some of the courses youve chosen are ones that fill up super fast on SOLAR ... you know justttt in case

Polysci and Sociology are both in the evening. I was thinking of trying to get my courses all in the morning so I could be free but I need polysci for my major. Is sociology needed and is it easy? It seemed to be a prerequisite for a lot of second year sociology courses.

Political science and sociology are both very introductory, if you're familiar with them you shouldn't have any undue trouble. Alway is an awesome teacher too! If you're looking for easy then I highly suggest Peace Studies over Linguistics, I heard it could be difficult.

Joshi is an amazing teacher and her class is super easy as long as you do the readings

i agree - joshi is an okay prof. the only problem i had with the class was the class in that people didn't really take it seriously and tended to talk through the whole thing - so joshi was constantly asking people to be quiet. while i understand the class can be a bit boring, for someone like me with a disability who needs to record, it was a bit annoying having peoples' voices at the same time on my recorder.

tutorials were kind of a waste of time. the TA kept trying to get a conversation going but people were too busy on their phones and facebook. it was worth participation marks to show up.

the mid-term and final were all multiple choice. the assignment is a bit different in that you had 2 choices. the first was to be part of a discussion group where you meet with seniors who come to mac to talk about different issues, the other was where you go out in the community and work with a seniors' agency of some sort (i attended classes for a week and then did survey questions after at a seniors' centre). then you have to write a first-person essay of your experience.

the only bad experiences were when the class talked over a guest speaker to the point where the guest speaker refused to come back and once when joshi went on a rant about how white people have it so easy and are all automatically prejudiced. so if you're sensitive to that kind of stuff...
