Horrible GPA..will i get kicked out?? HELP PLEASE
So I heard that u ned a 3 to stay and take courses at mcmaster. In some threads people said it was 3.5. Is it three or 3.5? I failed chem last semester and and got 1s. I had one pass of fail course, which i passed. So i ended up taking 9 courses this year because the chem i failed was a prereq. for the 2nd term chem. If I calculate my estimated GPA by ignoring the pass/fail class (do they ignore these in the gpa calculation?) and with the 8 remaining courses I get around 3.0-3.5. Is this the right way of doing it?
Will I get kicked out if i have a GPA above 3.0 but with 9 classes? one of which is a p/fail? I have registered for both chem 1a03 (failed) and chem 1aa3 this summer and one other extra course.
Im gonna see a counsilor monday. Please someone help me figure this out, I'm so depressed and pissed off at my stupidity. Mac was my dream school, I worked so hard for it, and i BLEW IT first year
excuse my typos.

Fails count as 0 towards your GPA . I won't be able to answer your question about getting kicked from life science. I don't know what the requirements for your program are. Best bet is to double check with your academic advisor and check the requirements on the course calender.

You haven't even written your exams yet, how do you know your final GPA from first year?

you could instead apply for reinstatement. wait 1 year and try again with a clean slate. not a guaranteed method of reentry but could clean ur record. afaik lifesci level 2 needs like a 6avg

so if I get a GPA of 3.0-3.4 I get a second chance to bring up my first year marks? or do I take 2nd year courses and show improvement there?

If you're GPA for first year is between 3.0-3.4 you will be put on academic probation and get into SCIENCE level II. So you'll still get into second year

ok i see. I recalculated. I can get way beyond a 3.5, maybe 4.5+ if i do decent on the exams. I think I can do this. When it comes to pass of fail courses, how are they incorporated in your GPA? If u pass them.

They aren't, if you don't get a numbered grade then they don't count towards the actual GPA, so if you took 9 courses and one was pass/fail the GPA would be divided by your 8 other classes.

you need to talk to an academic advisor. It changes per program. For example in Engineering it you drop below a 4 you get kicked out but may be allowed back in (maybe) via re-instatement.
0's tank your average though. Good luck.

Dont be so hard on yourself! You can always get back up.. explain you situation fully to the counsellor, check out summer courses, and come back next year swining
Chems are offered in summer school, and your other first year courses probably are as well if you want to boost your average.

You have not blown your first year man. I've had friends go through epic down-slides. University is a big learning curve for many especially with having Hamilton at your disposal. Get back on the horse, shake off those negative feelings, get your ass to academic advising, and talk to a counselor at SHC. You'll feel great because you will know you are now making a change. Brewing over it isn't going to help you, believe me you are NOT the only one going through this. Good luck
