Hospital Volunteering...
So I kinda sorta need some volunteering at a hospital. Which ones are easy to get to from mac and are not impossible to get a placement in (I'm pretty much discounting mac right now...)? Also, how would I get there (I would be using the HSR most likely)?

henderson was really easy to volunteer for, they are always looking for new volutneers. Just take the shuttle service between the hospital, takes you directly there and is a lot faster.

Henderson, FTW! I volunteered there in high school and it's super easy and you just show up when you want. I think you can get more involved and get trained for the operating room, but when my friend and I did it, we just gave out water to the patients and talked to them and played board games and stuff like that. Everyone's really nice there too.

Henderson sounds really good, I like the casual walk in and do stuff thing.
What shuttle would this be? (does it have a name? How long/far is it?) And what do they need in an application?

I volunteered at St. Joseph's on King Street for about 2 years and I just recently quit. I collected about 300-400 hours, I can't even remember. Would I still be able to transfer to Mac, seeing as St. Joes was part of the Hamilton Heath Sciences group of hospitals.

Can you volunteer in a specific place at the Henderson hospital? Say if I wanted to volunteer with a speech pathologist?

St. Joseph's is actually not part of Hamilton Health Sciences. Sad, I know :(
But I'm sure your experience in volunteering so much at any hospital would be extremely advantageous!
EDIT: Wow, i'm sorry if I'm wrong there. THe St. Joes website says the king street campus is affiliated with mcmaster. I've only had experience with the charlton campus, and i assumed the same. If it is part of the network, i read in another thread just recently that people transfer over to Mac all the time (after 50+ hours).

I really liked Henderson. I volunteered in the ER and OR.
It's just a short bus ride up the mountain too. Although the last time I went there was a single anti-choice protestor. haha.

I remember seeing 'Hamilton Health Sciences' on the sign outside the hospital, although I could be wrong. Other than this, I've never actually heard of any affiliation with Hamilton Health Sciences or Mac in general. Thanks for your response, I'll definitely mention my previous experience if and when I do apply to the mac hospital.

Any other hospitals or medical facilities looking for volunteers within about a half hour by HSR other than Mac and Henderson? I want a few backups and am having a terrible time with google, for some reason.

Yeah there are. I don't know if anyone mentioned above, but St. Joseph's Charlton Campus is pretty much always accepting volunteers. They have a few information sessions and orientations a year, so you should apply to those asap so you can attend them. Applying to it is best through phoning the volunteer office (I believe it's Kari Astles who you want to speak to), and she'll invite you to an information session to see if you like it. The process involves a phone interview, an orientation, and like other hospitals, the immunization check and 2 reference letters.
