If I poked a hole through my presto card..
to be able to put it on my key chain, would it affect the scanning process?

"Punching a hole in the card will render it useless; the hole will damage its antenna and chip."
I'm assuming there is a part of the card that you can get away with doing this, but I have no clue where the microchip is.. lol.

since there is no mag strip like usual cards, you dont know how the info is stored. Look in the dollar store (there is a dollarama in uni plaza) for a card keyholder

Most wallets have a card slot. You can just tap your wallet on the reader

I am assuming they are using RFID or NFC technology on these. MOST of the time the antennas run almost all the way to the edge of the card, all the way around. So I would advise against punching a hole in your card as it may very likely damage the antenna and render the card useless.

All of these RFID cards adhere to some ISO standard, so following that standard you can find where the antennae is not running, and poke a hole. Or better yet, dissolve the card in a vat of acetone, and put it into your phone. http://bit.ly/MEbYWn

The card itself is actually property of PRESTO, so dissolving it probably isn't the best idea although chances of them asking for the card back is pretty slim. But tapping on with your phone when you board a bus would probably warrant they see the card...
