Laptop Battery Replacement
As my Dell Studio XPS 13 (which I was insane to buy in the first place - design fail with the fan, so it burrnnss) has like and hour of battery life, I need a new one, preferably the extended battery, but Dell charges SO MUCH for it!

Anyone know any reliable sites with some good prices?

you could try TigerDirect.ca which is probably one of the best; also to prolong battery life, don't leave it plugged in after it's reached a full charge. this ruins the actual battery life; instead charge it fully and then take of the battery, while using it with the power cord.

NCIX, Canada Computers, TigerDirect, NewEgg.

Those are definitely the best 4 to check.

Someone once told me on this forum that modern batteries are designed to not be ruined if you keep it plugged in after it's been charged.

Confirmation plz?

eBay, perhaps? Not sure if the quality could be particularly trusted but yeah.

even modern batteries, when over charged retain less power. it's better for the battery health to pull it out after a full charge. lol it's like 15 seconds of work, and it'll prolong your battery life for a lot longer

It's better to be safe and unplug it but I'm fairly certain that laptops can bypass the battery when they are plugged in. It should do it automatically but there should also be an option to prevent your battery from charging until you either uncheck the option or reboot your computer.

THIS^

Batteries on eBay (especially from Hong Kong) can be multiple times cheaper than buying them locally.

Don't worry about quality - what you're actually doing is buying from the manufacturer who sells to all the major brands (which is of course cheaper when you cut out the distributor middle-man).

EDIT: For some reason there appear to be a lot of these located in the US for a pretty decent price. This one has three more cells than the standard battery, and is pretty cheap.

That was true... like 10 years ago when everyone had NiCad batteries.

All modern electronics use lithium-ion batteries, which have protection circuits built in to automatically stop them from charging when they're full (they would literally explode otherwise).
