the standard size for most laptops is 15.6 and are commonly used in lecture.

i have never found it to be an issue with mine. i personally use OneNote since i found it is the most versatile if you do, but less effective with equations

I have a 16.4" VAIO and size is not at all an issue. I prefer larger screen size since it always comes with a numberpad as well, and you can have both a powerpoint/pdf and word application open for supplementary notes. Hellz yeah 1920x1080 native resolution.

It's not too big to be used in class or anything but you might have a problem carrying a heavy laptop around...
