Being Chinese yourself do you know why they don't like hanging out with people of different ethnicities?
I've always been curious.

But usually funding is only to subsidize, so in the end trips would cost more in total.

someone should break the stereotype!!! well there are people who do but I guess it's just culture right? even still, it's nice to see when a big group of people from multiple ethnicities are altogether.

Firstly, I have to say it's hard to explain these things because I'd usually have to assume more things/scenarios, and then it starts getting really difficult.
And for anyone who just caught this message, I AM NOT SPREADING THE HATE.
Why don't most Asians hang out with other people? There are plenty of reasons: something in common with the rest, or homesickness, or even discriminatory.
Think about it. There's groups of friends who share things in common, or interests. Me and my friends are interested in sports, and that's why we're friends. Now translate that for the Asian groupies, and it could be safe to assume then that they're friends b/c they're all the same ethnicity.
Homesickness could be a case, especially for the foreign students. Imagine some Chinese guy doing a 4 month exchange at Mac. Now one would think that he'd make some friends of different backgrounds and learn their culture/lifestyle, which definitely can happen (if you make the effort). But really, could it also be safe to assume that at first impulse you'd be like "omg, everything's different. It'd be nice if I can find one of my own kind to help me out getting around this place. Where's my family when I need them, because I can really count on them."? So then that'd try to find their own kind, and hang out with them, as a substitute for family.
It could also be discriminatory. If one lives in a sort of a homogenous environment with little exposure of "what's out there", it would be kind of easy to judge wrongly and jump to conclusions.
Even saying this, I even got told by a bunch of Asian girls that I was "too white" for them, because I grew up in Canada and therefore unlike other Asian dudes. Pffft, whatever that means. *Rolls eyes*
