Looking to buy a new printer?
Here are some tips for those on the fence or are about to buy a new printer for University:

- You will more than likely only need a monotone (black and white) printer for University. I highly suggest buying a laser printer. Inkjet are slow and inefficient, laser will save u monies in the long run.

- If u really need colour, DO NOT get a laser, the prices just get jacked up in my expereince. Instead buy an EPSON inkjet, which can be had for $30 and will be able to fufill all of your colour needs if u ever even use it. yes having 2 printers can be a hassle but it will save u a lot of money.

- Just remember that toners for printer can be more expensive then the printer themselves, which would mean it would be cheaper for u to replace ur printer with a new printer then buying a toner. This is a never ending cycle of viciousness which eats away at ur monies supply.

- IMPORTANT - Before buying your printer, i HIGHLY suggest u check out these sites for ur toner prices.

-- http://www.monoprice.com/products/de...asp?c_id=1 07
-- http://www.ccs-digital.com/ (or try to find them on ebay) They usually give u the best price.
-- Also try ebay, there are usually good deals there as well.

Make sure the printer ur buying has a toner that's is reasonable to replace. Finally i will rank printer by their overall quality and longevity.

1. Brother.
2. HP
3. Samsung.

Note all of these brands are good. They all offer reasonable upfront prices and relatively cheap toner prices. I would say though that brother are usually the best in terms of value. Brother has usually the longest lasting toner and are fairly cheap to replace. They are also well built and wont break down too much. Also stay far away from lexmark, they are not good quality.

one more thing, do not buy warranties for ur printers they are usually a rip off.

Edit also check to see if ur printer is compatible with vista, since some are really buggy with it.

Laser > Inkjet
I'm bringing up my 8 year old HP laser jet that still works like a charm and only needed one toner refill since I got it.

Haha pretty damn bulky considering its black/white.
15 years tho, wow, I didn't even know they made laser printers available for avg consumers for that long.

Mine is so old that the only way I can get it to work is if I run it through Windows XP mode in Windows 7.
