Skipping classes for WW events
All you will hear is
"Go to classes" WIIIIIIIINK!
Classes happen every week for the next 4 years, you can afford missing one for a class. The first class is just introductory anyways, you will not be penalized for skipping out. They look at the first year schedule and try their best not to interfere with their time limitations.
100% go to the events, the people you'll meet with effect your entire University experience!!!

But even though we aren't taught new material during the first class, don't the professors use this time to tell us important information and give us important documentation?

Profs usually give the overview of the course, and hand out the syllubus. However, they also give out copy of the syllubus during the next class, or have them available online (this is dependant on the prof, however).
Syllubus = description of the course, tells you the required text(s), tells you all the deadlines/due dates/test dates for the course, explains the plagerism policy, gives you the profs contact info and hours, class location and times...some other things i'm probably forgetting...

1) make sure all the courses needed for your degree are covered
2) i noticed one of the conflicts was due to a tutorial, switch the tutorial
3) see what other elective courses fit around your core classes

you just need to switch into a psych section that fits then.
i'm not really sure how all of this is going to go down on tuesday, as this is a new system for all of us upper years as well!

indeed, that could definately but a damper on things.
once you've got your core classes figured out, you can also try and see what courses are available when you don't have anything else scheduled.

Hey Sara! Yea, psychology has sooo many available times that you should be able to fit into one of them, you just gotta have the patience to find that one. Last year, I found that a lot of nursing students were in the same psychology class, so if you are having trouble, maybe ask some other first year nursing students what psych section they are in, cuz it will probably fit into your schedule. And you may not get the elective you want, it sucks, but the nursing schedules are so set (tutorials and labs and lectures) that you can't change those, you may have to pick another elective.

so i was just wondering what other nursing students have as their electives, as i'm finding it quite difficult to find courses that don't conflict with the core nursing subjects!
i've got a handle on how to work it out now, it's just finding the right courses now.
i'm my own guidance counsellar now!

Sara, at least you are lucky enough to be able to get into the MUGSi server. I waited an entire day, until 1:00 AM to get connected. Ugh!!I have the same prob as you: my elective doesn't fit my schedule.
