Thanks again to all of you who replied; nice to see I'm not alone in my thoughts as well Is there a place where I can find out when clubs meet and such? or do all the clubs have some sort of welcome event where they introduce themselves?

Yes there is an event. During welcome week there's Clubfest where all the MAC clubs st up a booth so you can find out what they are about and sign up for those that interested you.

If you're planning on attending Welcome Day tomorrow (Friday) you can also find out about some MSU services and clubs to get involved with

I would definately recommend going to welcome week, even if you dont buy a macpass still try and be on campus as much as you can that week, and try to get involved in all of the SOCS events. all of the frist years will be looking to meet new people and make friends, so just be friendly and introduce yourself. I met almost all of the friends that I have during frosh and the frist week of lectures.
Dont worry everyone feels the same way going into first year.

Getting involved is totally key. My B.Tech program is a very segmented and unique one, since most people in it are part time College technologist grads working full time, and are older. I'm one of the few who do it full time. Few know we exist, and those of us in the program don't know about anything in the "outside world" beyond our program.
I stumbled upon MecVT, in the past years the team has built all sorts of crazy shit, the Carpool being one of our proudest achievements (you'll see it Welcome Week. We're not an official MSU club so we'll probably be out front of JHE). Needless to say I help RUN the team now... one of the coolest things I've done in my life at Mac.

don't you people have friends from school?
1. your lab partner will be your friend anyway.
2. if you sit next to a person long enough, you're gonna get to know the person even if you don't know how to strike a convo.
3. if you ask people some questions then next time that person might remember you which might be a good time to befriend him/her.
I made a friend last year while standing in a line <_< but we didn't actually become friends because there was nothing to talk about.
having said that, I still don't have too many friends after a year here mainly because I might've been too picky.

Haha, your lab partner WILL become your friend for sure!
Honestly, just strike up a conversation with a stranger.. you'll be surprised at how friendly everyone is.. but then you'll realize that it makes PERFECT sense because everyone is in the same situation as you anyways! We all want to be liked by others.. so supposing that you're a nice person, get along with people and are easy to talk to.. you'll be fine!
A couple days ago I learned how to make a pen disappear.. apparently this is a good way of striking up a conversation! I'm pretty bad at that magic trick though.. haha. It would still start a conversation though.. "Oh, you're absolutely horrible at that trick.."
