McMaster Email Use
Hi everyone, I'll be starting my first year at McMaster in the fall of 2009. I was just wondering where and how do you check your emails sent by and to your McMaster email? For example, the email is [email protected], where do I go to check messages that are sent to this email and where do I go to send messages using this email?

https://muss.cis.mcmaster.ca

Also, it's more practical to forward everything to your personal e-mail. If you use gmail, you can also send e-mails from your mcmaster account in gmail.

How come I get " incorrect pw or account name" when I enter it in? Are first years not allowed access to it yet?

They are probably setting up the accounts. Have you enabled your MacID services yet?

When did you activate it? It'll most often take 24hours but times can increase or decrease depending on how many people are waiting for their accounts to be set-up.

I'm not sure if you're doing this already, but when you log in, make sure you only use the MACID part of your e-mail.

So, if your e-mail is '[email protected],' when you go on the McMaster e-mail website (https://muss.cis.mcmaster.ca/) under login you should type "xxx" and then type your password accordingly.

When I first got my e-mail, I used to make the mistake of typing out my entire e-mail address (including the '@mcmaster.ca' part) in the login box.

See if that works.

That is correct, after you are done picking your courses AND confirming the payment agreement, you will be able to enable your MacID services (There may be a time lag though, you general have to wait until the next day). Then when you have successfully enabled your MacID services, you'll be able to access your McMaster e-mail (again, I think there is a time lag)

To do this, once you log in obviously, just go to "Rules", check the little box "REdirect All Mail To" and type in your email(s) that you want all your mail to go to.

Afzal, Selfcontrol, sinthusized all say thanks to AnguishedEnd for this post.

Yep, and to send e-mails from your McMaster account in gmail go to setting in gmail, then accounts and import and you'll see "send mail as".

I should probably just go and try this out and see what happens, but can I just ask if all of the email that I now send from gmail will now be seen as coming from [email protected] ?

You can choose which account is the default you want to send the e-mails from and you can switch from which account it sends when you are composing or replying e-mails.

The only problem for me is that when I send an email like that it says from: [email protected] on behalf of [email protected] .ca

I want to know how to only say from my mac email. I think it has something to do with setting it up through the option: "Send through muss.cis.mcmaster.ca SMTP servers (recommended for professional domains)." The only thing is that I don't know the server name nor do I know the port number, so I'm a little bit stuck. If anybody could provide some insight, it would be greatly appreciated. As well, does anyone know when my email will change from [email protected] er.ca to [email protected]?

Not any more. If you check the GMail blog, they've fixed that and tell you how to get rid of it.

Do a search for "MUSS outlook" on McMaster's site and you'll get all the info you need.
