Minor in Math OR Stats?
So this year, Mac decided to split:
Minor in Math and Stats
to
1. Minor in Math
2. Minor in Stats
[Last graduating class is 2013]
-.=
First year courses are relatively the same. Calc 1, Calc 2, and Linear Algebra
which minor would be more beneficial? =/
in terms of practicality (lol is this even a word), easiness, fun. =P
basically what which minor would you take?

I wouldn't take either, but if I had to choose I would probably go with stats. I think it would be more beneficial to what my program is designed for (research).

I would just extend my program time and double major or something

it depends on what your career goals are
for example, if you wanted to go into teaching:
in order to have a teachable in math at UFT, only 1 full-year course in stats will count toward a math teachable
therefore, taking extra stats courses (and not enough math courses) would not help you qualify for a math teachable
if you don't have any plans to use the math or stats minor in the future, than I would take the courses I'm more interested in
Go through all the math and stats courses and make a list of the ones that interest you.
See at the end if which category you picked more from. Math or Stats.
Personally, I would pick a minor in stats because I find it more interesting than calc and linear algebra. Plus stats is pretty useful in science programs (like jhan said).

I would pick math. It is more thought-provoking and teaches you to think critically. Math is also way more fun than stats. Stats is boring...and lame...and sleep inducing.

It all depends. Why do you want a minor in math/stats in the first place?
If it's for interest, you should keep in mind that there are more math courses to choose from. It's probably also easier to find classes that won't conflict with the rest of your schedule.
Personally, I'd choose math, because I see more potential with it. Stats is useful, but its more like a secondary tool used for analysis (at least in my opinion). Math just seems to be more diverse (and useful).

Sorry to invade this thread, but how useful would a psych minor be compared with a math or stats minor?

I'm guessing Math minor > Psych minor.
But then again, it might depend what your major is

basically i'm doing a math/stats minor cause that's gonna be my electives for the next 4 years. it's not what i'm gonna really go into, just the courses i'm comfortable taking with throughout uni. i could do either, but i just wanna know which one is "better". and "better" could be anything. you guys define that.

Stats is better, but there is only one stats course for first years and you can't take it if you have a credit in data management.
So for first year, take the math electives you can, and after that you decide.

Ignoring which is better, i would go with mathematics as you have more chioce in what you want..and you can still do all the stats courses.
The following nine units are same in both.
3 units from MATH 1A03, 1LS3, 1X03, 1ZA3
3 units from MATH 1AA3, 1LT3, 1XX3, 1ZB3
3 unitsfrom MATH 1B03, 1ZC3
For math
18 units Levels II, III, IV Mathematics or Statistics including at least six units from Levels III, IV Mathematics or Statistics
For stats
9 units from STATS 2D03, 2MB3, 3A03, 3D03, 3S03, 3U03
9 units from ARTS&SCI 2R03, PNB 3XE3, Levels II, III, IV Mathematics or Statistics

That's not necessarily more choice.... You have to take 9 units from Level II/III/IV for both as well except for the fact that in Stats you can substitute up to 6 units with A&S 2R03 or PNB 3XE3. And then for math you HAVE to have 6 units from Level III/IV where as for Stats you can choose between all those courses. To really know how much choice you have in each I would have to check the undergraduate calendar to see how many courses there actually are but I'm much too lazy to do that right now.

Don't join the dark side that is stats. Math offers cake. I promise.
