Here's a tale about the beast we call "SOLAR"
When SOLAR first opened last month, I like many students, got up bright and early on my summer break to choose my classes for September.
After a couple hours of frustration, I was finally let into the SOLAR menu and gingerly choose the option "UNDERGRADUTE COURSE REGISTRATION"....At this moment, a sense of relief crept into my very being....but as I clicked the link, I was met with an unfamiliar message:
"Due to the status of your payment agreement, you may not log into SOLAR until August 15"
"Hmmmmm, what the F*ck is this??" I wondered to myself, and several attempts at the link later, it was clear "I was not going to be able to choose my classes today....shit". That same day, I drove into the wonderful Mac campus to ask just what exactly was going on.
At this point I would like to inform you all that I am going into my fourth year of studies at Mac...I know how to use SOLAR/MUGSI. I haven't made some really stupid error in my actions online and it was the fisrt time I had tried to get into SOLAR all summer long, and I had previously payed my last years tuition in full...obviously
In short, the Academic Advisor spent 30 min trying to convince me this was my fault saying things like 'oh you must have accidently registered for courses earlier and forgot about it" or "you must have agreed to some payment agreement already and it slipped your mind".....no....no I did not. By the end of it, the Academic Advisor told me that there was nothing she could do for me, that the system had locked me out until the 15th and I had to wait until then to choose my courses.
It is August the 19th...and half of the classes I needed are full, including the one class I really really REALLY needed to get into, Italian 1Z06
When I am asked in the future "what is one thing you miss about University?" I am going to start my response with..."well I can tell you I DON'T miss SOLAR!!!" Curse SOLAR!
