New Laptop
Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy a new laptop price range from $500-800. I'm looking at 14 inch moniter size and a decent brand. Any tips? I'm looking at Dell but it looks like you can only order it online. Do you guys know any good place to shop for laptop beside futureshop and bestbuy?

Canadacomputers has a plethora of notebooks, i believe there on Dundurn. Go to Canadacomputers.com, ncix.com is another alternative and lucomputers.com. If your willing to go with a 13 inch monitor the optimal laptop for your budget would be http://www.canadacomputers.c om/pro...e m_id=033806. Good processor, phenomenal gpu and a decent amount of ram. Easily the most underrated laptop released this year.

If possible, I would first "test" the device out by buying it a store that has easy refund policy (for example Futureshop).

Canada Computers charge you a restocking fee on open products. If you end up not being happy with your laptop, you will immediately lose a certain % of money. Their products tend to be cheaper but only buy it if you are certain.

Dell might be online only but they have a lot of nice promotion and coupons that you can use.

Click on the Coupon heading too!

My personal favorite brand is Lenovo Thinkpad (used to be IBM Thinkpad). You can use the Employee Purchasing Website to get even more discount while using Coupons and such.

You didn't really give us much information on your usage. What will you be using most on the laptop? Basic web surfing? Gaming? Graphic editing? Etc...

Figure that out first before anything.

You shouldn't buy anything unless you know what you will be using it for.

I'm looking at Lenovo. Their price range surprises me though, it goes from $600 to $1800 and they all look just about the same from the exterior. I just want a laptop that will last a long time and that is durable. Mostly for school and web-surfing. Nothing too intense, maybe light gaming here and there. Do you have a personal experience with Lenovo?

Is their price reasonable? I bought a cooling pad there once and it was more expensive than futureshop so I'm not sure about their laptop deals.

I have known a couple firends that have a Lenovo, and can personally say they are very durable. With a little care Lenovo's can easily last 4-5 years! Lenovo is one of the few makers that have reliable computers.

Dell Inspiron 14R is on sale (dell.ca) right now. I read that it has a short battery life, heavy and gets heated fast. What do you guys think? Does anyone have experience with Dell shipping?

I have an IBM Thinkpad. It was made by Lenovo but still retain the IBM name while they were in the transitioning stage.

It was release in 2005...

Thinkpads are well known for its reliability. It is mainly used by Corporation as a result. Because it is business-focused, you will noticed that most of the line lack style.

I don't blame you. With taxes it is definitely out of your price range. Even refurbished units don't have that much of a discount.

With such light requirement, you should have no problem finding a laptop within your price range. Just make sure it has a 9 cell battery if you want extended up time.

First link is not a 14 inch just to let you know. But I like the 3rd one but their specs seems pretty low for the price? Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not good with specs. lol

Is Tigerdirect.com legit? They ship to Canada?

lol sorry about that! The 3rd one is decent! Its hard to find a small laptop with something other than an Atmo or AMD. Those specs should be good enough for everything your gonna do. You will easily be able to run low to mid end games.

And yup Tigerdirect is very legit, ive bought a lot of things from them. You can also visit their stores! I know they have one in Mississauga not sure about Hamilton.
