UTS has a campus wide firewall for the best interest of
you, it protects your computer no mater where you connect, from outside attackers. If
any computer inside the firewall got attacked, it would become a vulnerability for all computers at mcmaster (also why we have CleanAccess Agent). Unfortunately, most online gaming requires ports to be open on the firewall (which would in turn, allow attackers as well).
Like someone mentioned already, the easiest alternative is to play over the campus LAN, which is blazing fast for games anyways! or join MLC
i really gotta get my CS 1.6 dedicated server on residence online eh.. hmm...i also just got another box for a CS Source server as well...
