My picks. Bolded = DO WANT!

I photographed The Wooden Sky at Canadian Music Week this year. Quite intense...

I'm pretty sure a lot of those bands have played at Mac before -- the Arkells were during the year at some point I think though, not during WW. I love a lot of bands, but I'd love to see Kings of Leon live (watched youtube vids, so amazing). They were in Hamilton like last year but I had no idea and missed it. ;_;

illScarlet was pretty good. So was DWW. The guy in the background of Justin Nozuka and USS's blender was pretty awesome.
I'd love to see Lights. that would be AMAZING. same with k'naan and tegan and sara
We pay enough tuition... so it shouldnt be a problem financially

LIGHTS puts on a pretty damn good show. I saw her back before she became popular with the teenaged-girl crowd, in a 19+ setting.

Would be nice to see the same (or similar) again if she were to play here.

It Lies In Ruin

Caliginous

Unexpect

Dreaming big, especially on Caliginous (lol bm playing at a university). I could see Unexpect possibly doing it, they played at the Annex with Sigh and that venue isn't terribly large.

Beyond those three, hopefully something not-awful will play. But I can't imagine that not happening.

In descending popularity, which is to say, ascending likelihood that we could get them:

Arcade Fire

Crystal Castles
Wolf Parade
The New Pornographers

Caribou
Great Lake Swimmers
Junior Boys

Do Make Say Think
Owen Pallett

The Rural Alberta Advantage
Tiga

Sunset Rubdown
You Say Party! We Say Die!

Holy F-U-C-K

first thing would be to see which of them aren't already booked for something/are on tour during welcome week.
these are all too big for mac, but how cool would that be. i guess Juniorboys and caribou are from hamilton/dundas tho. not that they care i guess
Im so excited you included tiga in your list abid!

Sleater-Kinney should reunite for the sole purpose of playing at Welcome Week

Only in my dreams :(

I think Crystal Castles should come and play though, even that's still not a big chance of happening.

So I did my homework and out of the list I made before, these are the bands that are not in the middle of a tour or booked for something during welcome week. A bunch of them are playing a festival in Edmonton on the 4th but that shouldn't be a problem.

Islands

Tokyo Police Club
Great Lake Swimmers
Junior Boys (they have a show in Mexico on the 8th...)
The Weakerthans
Do Make Say Think
Born Ruffians
Besnard Lakes
The Rural Alberta Advantage
Tiga
Holy F-U-C-K
You Say Party! We Say Die!
Plants and Animals
Two Hours Traffic
Jason Collett
Wintersleep
Basia Bulat
Lightning Dust
Ohbijou
CFCF
The Arkells
Timber Timbre
The Wooden Sky

I would like Junior Boys but I dunno if they'd be down for coming to Hamilton(from wherever they are) to play a show for us then have to fly down to Mexico for Wednesday.

I like Great Lake Swimmers, DMST, Besnard Lakes, Plants and Animals, Wintersleep and CFCF but they're all very ambient, instrumental or laid back; which is probably not the right feel for welcome week.

I think the bands from Wintersleep down (other than the Arkells for obvious reasons) might not be popular enough to be viable.

So with all that said,
my picks would be: Islands, The Weakerthans, The Rural Alberta Advantage, Holy ****, and/or Lightning Dust.

Yeah, while we're at it we'll use our time machine to get The Smiths, David Bowie, and Neutral Milk Hotel.

Yeah mang, let's track down Jeff Mangum and force him to do In the Aeroplane Over the Sea in its entirety.

I'd be happy with him just flying over the crowd in an air(o)plane with a megaphone saying "IIIIII LOOOOVE YOU JESUUUUS CHRIIIIIIIIST"

I crashed the Basia Bulat U of T frosh once when she opened for TPC, there was a good crowd and they were pretty into it. I also saw The Weakerthans playing a few years back also. Funny that I've been to three of their frosh concerts (as mentioned earlier in this thread) but never one at Mac. d'oh!

I love the autoharp:
