Pulse membership
Is it possible to purchase a membership that is less than 4 months? I want to get one now, but I'll be leaving for the break in about 2 months, so I don't want to waste my money!
Thanks (:

Doesn't look like it.

But that 63 dollars is pretty much what you'll pay for 2 months at goodlife, and you have to sign up yearly for goodlife (last I checked)

You don't have to pay to use the gym at other universities, so it doesn't justify the fact that paying $63 is fair. And also, more than $100 of our tuition goes to the gym, so yeah...

So go to another university, jesus christ.

Considering our facilities and the price we get (especially when compared to robbers like Goodlife), we've got it ****ing good.

Didn't ****ing realize that the world runs for free. My bad.

Honestly, if I had the free time, I'd buy a pulse membership, even if I only used it for like infrequently throughout a couple weeks..

You know, I remember seeing it too when I stayed for the summer, but it doesn't say anything on the website. Although in retrospect, I don't think it ever did. I think I saw it on the paper they keep taped to the counter when you go to buy a membership.

Hey, they do have a 2 month membership. The one this term is for March and April. What you can do is also buy the 4 months and then when you want to leave go back into the office and ask them to refund it back to you (there's a $15 admin fee to completely refund the money or you can leave it as a credit on your account with no admin fee).

Edit: By refund I mean they prorate it so they charge you for the time already passed then refund the rest back to you. You might also have to have some kind of valid reason or something

You need to calm down, read slowly, and then THINK.

I'll try to spell it out for you since you obviously can't connect the dots

EVERY student pays tuition.
Over $100 from every student's tuition goes to the gym.
Most students don't use the gym.
Considering the number of people that actually use the gym, our school charges more per person that use the gym.

AKA the only way a single person would be paying less than if they got a membership at a normal gym would be if they got a gym membership for 8 months or more each year.

lol, I don't expect someone with a failing gpa to understand

McMaster
$104.75 from tuition for every full time student + $63 For one term of use
http://www.mcmaster.ca/bms/student/p...s_included.pdf

By the way, there are 24,432 full time students at McMaster this year. This is just a hunch, but I'm pretty sure more than half don't even use the gym.
http://www.mcmaster.ca/avpira/statis...ent0610.ht ml

Western
Western only charges $16.93 per student per year for their gym which is part of their tution
http://www.registrar.uwo.ca/?LinkSer...B&show Meta=0

Waterloo
Waterloo charges students $126 for their student services fee, which only part of it goes to the athletics department
http://www.adm.uwaterloo.ca/infofin/...ter%202011.pdf

On a side note, waterloo charges $65 for a one term membership to the gym for people that don't even pay their student services fee. Thats only $2 more than what we pay for pulse membership on top of our tution

Oh...
so they DO have to pay. Seems opposite of what you said earlier.

Again, just because something is "free" elsewhere, doesn't mean it's unfair that somewhere else in the world you have to pay for it.

but lol, failing gpa. I guess your program teaches you to use assume shit all the time?

Right, I was unclear when I mentioned it earlier. You do have to pay at other institutions, but it's included in the tuition and it is significantly less than what we pay. At Mac, we have the hidden cost which is included in our tuition (which is still more than other universities), and we also have to pay to get the pulse membership.

Please explain how paying more than double for the same service is fair.

And as for the gpa comment, that was uncalled for, sorry

Just to clarify : the fee that you pay essentially goes to athletics and recreation services in DBAC and IWC outside of the pulse: swimming pool, indoor track, squash courts, etc. For UWO, the $16.93 that Pay919 quoted is for the Thomspon Recreation and Athletics Center (TRAC), which is essentially their DBAC and not their Pulse (so it's similar to the Ath/Rec fee we pay). I'm pretty sure UWO students pay for a 'gym' membership on top of an athletics membership just like we do.
