Residence Trouble!
Hi, I applied to Mac and got my acceptance but I am not guaranteed residence, my average is an 81.5% and its 5% higher then the requirement for my program, but is there a chance I can still get residence?
I've already applied as soon as the application for residence opened up which was March 12th. Can someone please give me some info. Thank you (:

cutoff for guaranteed res was 79% last year so you should be fine. they did too many people with guaranteed res last year so they offered 1000$ or something else if you were willing to give up residence. you should be fine though.

In IRC they floored the idea of bumping up the average for guaranteed res because of what happened this year. As far as I know no conclusions have been made though .

thank you for the info, my grades are going to be higher 2nd semester, hopefully they'll take them into consideration when looking at residence acceptances.

Most programs have minimum requirements that meet that rez requirements so its not an issue, but sometime it could be if you just squeak into mac or for programs that have lower entrance averages

Just to clarify
RESIDENCE
Residence is not guaranteed to all first year students.
Those accepted to McMaster who meet the Residence Admissions cut-off average (82%* for the 2012-2013 Academic Year) are guaranteed a residence space provided they meet the application and deposit deadlines.
* The cut-off average is subject to change for future Academic Years
What happens if I'm not guaranteed?
- First year students who do not receive a guarantee are welcome to apply to the the waiting list, and are not required to make a deposit until contacted and instructed to do so.
- Non-guaranteed students applying to residence before the application deadline will be placed on the waiting list in descending order based on admission average. Applications received after the deadline will be ordered on the waiting list according to date and time the application is received.
- Students who have met the application deadline will be notified of their waiting list position one week after the residence application deadline. For all students applying after the deadline, waiting list positions will be posted within 5 business days. Students can view their waiting list positions on the online Residence Portal.
- What are the chances of getting an offer for residence? This is difficult to predict as an offer can only be made when spaces becomes available. There is no way to determine the timing of cancellations/withdrawals.
- What other options do I have? We encourage wait list students to look at all options for housing and suggest you visit the Off-Campus Resource Centre to find out more about accommodations in the local community.

I'm pretty sure they include second term midterm marks for the res cutoff.

I'm not sure about that. When I was going into first year, I got guaranteed a single room based on my average, and I got this offer at admission. This wasn't conditional, meaning if I dropped below the average required by the end of second term, I would still get my single room.

Say for example at the 2nd term midterm, TC has an 85% average. This would guarantee the tc residence if she maintains an 81% overall by the end of high school...that is what i meant.

Hopefully they look at 2nd semester mid terms for rez, it would suck to miss it by 0.5% and my average at mid terms should be around 85%, fingers are crossed!

when unis send out applications most of the acceptances are conditional and end by the end of ur high school year (or near the end) the marks should be taken at that point
