Its probably just an acknowledgment of your kindness. Deeper than just "thankyou", its like "I bow down to you".
Lol no I do it all the time. I walked in between someone testing someone on CPR and the person taking the test and I said sorry, but they were in the middle of the hallway, so really they were in my way. But I still felt like I was interrupting.
I dont however say sorry when some douchey group of people is walking like a wall down a hallway or sidewalk and they dont move for me and therefore i knock shoulders with them... in fact I am as rude as possible lol
