Most med schools don't care...but if you don't get into med school, it's good to have a back up plan, and a thesis can provide that, because it greatly helps your chances of getting into grad school.
It's still quite early for supervisors. If I'm remembering right from last year, forms aren't due until sometime in March, so you still have plenty of time to find a supervisor. Jan-Feb was when most people did this.
