GEK on thing? No clue what that is, so not sure if it's worth it to skip class.
For most classes, the first day is just going through the course outline. You usually won't cover much material if any. So if you can get that from someone else, or find it on webCT or something then you should be okay.

I recommend going to GEK on! I didn't go last year and then for like weeks after everyone was talking about it and I felt like I had missed out on something big.

I personally would recommend to go to your first classes if possible but no one is going to make you and if you can get the class outline from someone else, feel free to skip.

Classes are going to be there next week too. GEKon is not. The choice is clear.

Go to GEKon, it only happens once a year. Don't miss out on it. It might be hard to get another chance to go to GEKon. Plus its including in your macpass, would be a waste if you didn't go. Classes just go over the course outline, what class are you missing for GEK?

I would really recommend going to your classes. Welcome Week events and faculty events are great but you're here for an education first and foremost and by skipping your first class (where your prof can answer any and all questions you may have about books, labs, tutorials, etc) you set a really bad standard for the rest of the year.

If the course has another time slot earlier, go to the earlier class. That way you don't have to worry about missing class. There are many buses to GEK from JHE on thursday so no worries at different times.

Definitely go to GEK(on). Your first classes are little more than a read-through of the course outlines, and I think buses start leaving in the afternoon so if you still want to go to class you should be able to make most, if not all of them.

The night classes actually start real stuff because they re the equivalent to 3 lectures put into one, so I don't know know if night class would be a good one to skip, but it's all up to the individual.

This sounds like it's a faculty event and I know last year for Welcome Week they were telling people who had evening class to skip it and attend Faculty Night.
I didn't have night class last year but I definitely recommend attending faculty events. Yes you're here for an education but how well are you really going to do in school if you're miserable the entire year with no friends and no fun.
If you're really concerned about it perhaps you could go to the class at the beginning, ask the prof what you'll be doing and see what they say.
