Torrents
Just wondering about the policy of torrents in Mcmaster. Is there a DL limit? And if there is, is it campus wide or do some residences have different limits for dling per day.

Thanks!

the only limit on rez is 2GB download, if you download more than that, you get throttled for a day.

protip: DC++ is not part of the bandwidth limit. and you can get speeds ranging from 4 to 34 Mbps.

add 1 and 2 together and you get a full HDD within a few days.

Really? I downloaded a lot more than that in rez and didn't notice. Then again I had dial up until I moved out...

Honestly though, DC++ is way better than torrents, especially the closer you get to the end of the year since people start sharing more and more

Last time I checked torrents were blocked. Plus the information super highway has unlimited bandwidth on campus... unless of course the rez is connected to a different network.

Well he did say unlimited, just throttled.

Even when they are throttled it is still better than most residential, it just means it doesn't download at whatever the speed is on the other side, but maybe only at like 10-20mb/s

Well my friend downloaded a pink floyd album just to see, and it downloaded fine... so I guess its not blocked.

I'll just have to download something thats 2 GB and see what happens. Even if i get throttled, I was at like 85 mbp/s to begin with, so I could settle for 40 or so. Lol.

Easily hit 2.5mB/s daily... no throttling happened here.

You mean DC++? Yeah, it uses LAN instead of the internet which is why the speeds are so fast.
