What did you change your preferences to? Did they say you have a better chance of getting a room now that you changed it?

And, don't do what your parents want! Do what you want, especially if you're paying for it. I was talking to one girl at the beginning of this year, and she was saying that she commuted for the first three days, and realized there was no way it was going to work, so she had to scramble to find off-campus housing. Like, I pay for my own housing, so although I value my parents' opinions and I would LIKE them to agree with what I'm doing, neither of them understand why I would want to be off-campus instead of on res. Ultimately, it's my decision--I'm an adult, and they can't tell me what to do unless they're paying for it

I'm confused. Are there two separate waiting lists or just one? Are upper year/transfer students on one list and first years on another. If so, how do they determine which waiting list to pick from?

Unless my understanding of the system is completely flawed (which is a possibility, but I'm pretty sure this is how it works), they have a certain number of bed spaces for first years and a certain number for upper years. If an upper year drops, another upper year will take their place. If a first year drops, another first year will take their place. If they happen to run out of upper years on the wait list, then they'll go to first years. They do this because there are waaaaaay more first years than upper years, and because of the whole 'guaranteed res' thing, and because upper years have to apply before first years.

Maybe you can try calling them and asking? Just say that you'd like to have an idea of if you should start to seriously look for off-campus housing, or if you'll get on res.

One last clarification - would you happen to know if there is one list that they draw from and say for example you are #20 on the overall list but 1-19 are 1st years and an upper year withdraws, does the room automatically jump to person #20 or are there two totally different lists?

My understanding is that there are two separate lists, but the method you described would end up with the same result as having two separate lists. For example, if 1-19 are first years and 20 is an upper year, and an upper year withdraws, the spot goes to #20. But, if there are two lists, #20 would be the first person on it, and thus would get the spot. The only difference really is what your actual number is. I think there are two separate lists (that would make more organizational sense), but I'm not 100% sure.

Wow, they couldn't make that any more confusing! When I heard there were "two" lists I wasn't sure if there was person #20 on the 1st year list as well as person #20 on the upper year list. So basically, you're given a number that really doesn't mean much because you have no idea who is below you on the list when a room becomes available. So if you are #20 and an upper year student and everyone below is first year, you are theoretically #1 on the upper year list. Yikes, I think I'll just join meena 101 and pray for spot - this involves too much thinking!

ahahaha yeppp i told you ; that can be good and bad depending you know if like number 43 (could be an upper yr) but if everyone below number 43 is a first yrrr thennn that person is kind of luckyy !

i have a few friends who have have experience with this and to be honest, we SHOULD be okay, just depends how long we have to wait- i called housing and they said we should know after this friday (deposits are due, and all that junkk.. ) but yeah ! haha are you a transfer student or just an upper yr

Neither actually - I'm trying to find out for my son who is a 2nd year transfer student (he works and can't spend all this time trying to figure it out). Does it make a difference if you are a transfer student? He's #87 anyway.

im a transfer student as well haha- no it doesnt your just considered part of the upper yr wait listt !! im 83 ! hoping for the best !

You could always get a house just offcampus if it comes down to it
