What's wrong with the Campus Dentist?
Loaded question, I know. But whatever.

I made an appointment for next week because I'm pretty sure there is something seriously wrong with my mouth, but multiple people & MI have all had the same reaction, which is generally ">__________>"

It seems as though Ancaster Dental Arts or whatever is a good place. I couldn't really afford to pay anything up front anyways, and I just read on an old thread that they don't require payment upfront. Plus their service received favorable comments. Yay, 'cause I hate the dentist. >_>

But yea, I guess...

a) wtf is wrong with campus dentist
b) should I just cancel and make an appoint at ADA (IDK how soon they can fit me in though =[)

I don't trust anybody with my teeth.

But on a related note - what?

Don't you get a discount if you go there and are on the MSU health plan?

my experience at the campus dentist was bad. i had an excruciating pain in my wisdom tooth to the point i could not sleep at night and so i went to get it checked out and i was prescribed a frikken POTENT and EXPENSIVE anti-inflammatory drug with side effects, and needless to say it didn't work...

i don't know how they are with procedures but after that little experience i certainly wouldn't go back! really now an anti-inflammatory for what was probably a severe bacterial infection? brilliant.

I went there before and had a horrible experience. Initially i went there for a crack in my front tooth. they fixed it but then notified me that i needed 3 of my old fillings replaced. I figured that the dentist knows best so I had two of them done at the same appointment. It took them 5 tries to get the needle in the right place for the freezing and they still could not get it right so i ended up having 2 fillings done with no freezing at all. This was extremely painful and they kept telling me to relax even though I was in alot of pain. Then when I was done they rushed me out very quickly, only for me to realize that the fillings were way too big and I had to go back and have them filed down. Than after they kept pressuring me into changing one of my other fillings I went to a different dentist and they told me that my old one was perfectly fine. So basically they were trying to scam more money out of me. And in general i just found that they were very rushy.
I have advised in other threads for people to go to Ancaster Dental arts. I would recommend you cancelling your appointment and going there. I called in and got an appointment there the same day. Just tell them you are experiencing bad paid and they will get you in very quick.

I had no trouble either. I've been there several times for routine work -- cleaning and scaling.
I've never had any major procedures done there though.

I'm pretty sure I've posted about this on here before, but my experience:

I went to the campus dentist a year or two ago because I was suffering from an uneven bite and needed an occlusal adjustment. This is something where, when you bite your teeth together, only a couple of teeth touch, and there is a lot of pressure which causes pain. The solution is to very lightly file down the high teeth so that the rest sit together evenly. Simple.

The dentist didn't even know what this was - she had to look it up in a book, and then said something along the lines of "um, so what do you want me to do?". She then looked in some dentist catalogue and found something and said "ok, this might fix it, I have to order something, make another appointment for a couple of weeks from now".

I came back, and was informed she hadn't bothered to order anything, but that she thinks putting filling material onto the top of a couple of my molars might help (the complete opposite of what you're supposed to do and made it even worse). She took an hour doing it, and afterwards, I was in extreme pain. I couldn't even bite my teeth together or eat most solid food.. I had to eat soup and KD for half a ****ing month.

I made an appointment with Dr Filice (in the plaza with Crabby Joe's in it), and told them what happened. The Dr took a look and was shocked that another dentist would do that. He removed all the filling material, did the procedure properly, and in 5 minutes it was done. The guy felt so embarrased he did it for free, i shit you not. I went to pay and they told me I wasn't being charged.

I've never had a medical professional make me feel a complete lack of confidence in their ability before, until I went to the campus dentist. It's a really unpleasant feeling.

Dr Filice takes student cards and will bill directly to the school's insurance, so you don't have to pay. I dont know what the deal is now, but back when I went to the campus dentist, they made you pay upfront and then the insurance company mailed you back a cheque like 2 weeks later.

Well I'm pretty sure its changed since then, but yeah, I wouldn't recommend having any procedures other than cleaning and fillings be done there.
