Most of the dropping tends to happen on August 13th, because once people actually have their schedules in front of them, they might make changes such as getting rid of their 8:30 classes etc.

Well, SOLAR should have warned about unfixable conflicts (A course with only one core/tutorial/lab that conflicts with another course with only one core/tutorial/lab). They will try to section in a way so that it avoids conflicts but sometimes they cannot avoid them.

I heard the ones who complete their payment agreement first get sectioned before the ones who complete their payment agreement later. Can anyone confirm this?

Just a quick question about course conflicts. So I ended up taking Kin and Gerontology for Term 1 without bothering to check when the Cores are offered. I just checked right now and turns out both of them are offered during the same time so I have to end up changing one of them. Both are electives for me as I'm in Life Science.

Now my question is, when Solar comes across an unfixable error like this? Does it kick me out of both programs or does it give me a chance to choose which one to drop and which one to keep?

Hmm, I find it odd how it didn't warn you of a conflict before hand. Usually it wouldn't let your confirm your courses. If you confirmed your courses then I don't think it would kick you out, but you will have to deal with the conflict. Everything should be the same at midnight since sectioning hasn't begun. So log-on tonight and pick which one you want to drop. Also look for many courses that you want to take in its place right now. Some of them may be full and you'll want more than 1 backup so you aren't running around.

Can I log on and make the change now? I thought SOLAR is unavailable from July 9th and will reopen again August 13th? Or am I mistaken?

Also, I really can't recall if it warned me.. Maybe something popped up and I might have closed it by accident(seeing as it was like 2:40 AM when Solar finally let me in) but I definately confirmed my courses. Couple days ago I logged into double check my courses and they were there.

SOLAR is reopening July 13th to August 3rd. Sectioning will be done from August 3rd to August 11th. You get your schedule on August 11th and SOLAR reopens on August 13th

Yeah, if they were there when you checked your courses then they should still be there when you recheck them tonight. Are you completely positive that they conflict though? Can I know which courses you are talking about?

Sure. I took Kinesiology 1Y03 and Gerontology 1A03. The single Core for Kinesiology is offered Monday at 9:30 to 10:20 and Tuesday 10:30 to 11:20
For Geron, the single core is offered Monday and Thursday at 9:30 and Tuesday at 10:30.

BTW, what do you mean by sectioning?

You're sure you picked first term for Geron 1A03 right?

Sectioning is when SOLAR starts putting students in sections. You know how there are multiple Cores, Tutorials and Labs? Well, students will be put in random sections. Then students can change their sections on August 13th when SOLAR reopens to get a schedule they want (or try to, sections may be full).

These sections slot us into schedules that are conflict free right?

They try to. I think they section students that agreed to their PA early first and the ones that agreed to their PA later are sectioned last. Conflict free schedules aren't guaranteed. There may be many students that can only take 1 core out of 4. If that is the case than some students may not get sectioned in that 1 core because of space restrictions.

Yeah I'm sure because I remember Gerontology second term was full at that point.

Oh alright. Thanks for that.

So assuming I didn't get the warning (which I'm pretty sure I didn't), do I have to call in and double check about this?

Oh, ok. I'm a little nervous now X|
Oh and I just want to make sure, tonight when SOLAR re-opens we are not selecting/competing for cores, labs and tutorials? We are just doing the same thing we did for registration? Picking our electives and seeing if they are full, right?
