DC++ is great...you can download movies within SECONDS...and episodes sometimes the day they air on tv...its very handy and it'll keep you sane especially because you tend only to have access to a common tv.

Anyway, it's a server which connects everyone on the McMaster residence network together and allows them to share files. Some people on there have close to 2 terabytes of movies and stuff. It's very fast since it doesn't go over the internet.

You can connect from outside the rez network, but it goes really slow since that has to go through the internet. There are a few articles on this site about it.
So serious haha. Well that's a shame for off-campusers then. :/

That's why off-campus students should make friends with on-campus students XD

Well, it's actually uncertain how well off-campus DC++ will work at this point. DC++ was only recently (like March or April) moved to a different server which allows off-campus users to connect.

What I'm hoping is that people on the campus wireless network will be able to connect to each other without going over the internet; meaning that we *may* be able to get high speed DC++ access while in areas under wireless coverage, such as the student center. It would only be when connected to other people using the campus wireless though, and I doubt people have a lot of movies/crap on their laptop hard drives. :(

You can always make friends, especially if you are taking any first year courses

A lot of people get a new laptop when coming to uni, last year 300GB+ wasn't uncommon, I assume they're probably closing in on 500GB by this year. Considering most school activities don't amount to more than a few GB worth of files and programs, that still leaves hundreds of GBs for music and movies. I know quite a few people shared a lot using their laptop. Heck, the was somebody on there with almost 1.5TB worth of share using a laptop + external drives.

On-Topic:
Only 3 more days till Solar re-opens, hopefully I can find a seat in Origins 2FF3.

Wowww that's a LOT of files! So it's basically like you're sharing with other people?

Wow, I am so camping out - figuratively speaking - on my computer the night of July 12th. It seems like not many people know about the July 13th date - that's a good thing, and a bad thing at the same time. -__-

Same! I'm definitely doing the mistake of leaving it to the last minute like before. Yeah! I only found out about this recently too. Yay
