The school will NOT accept marks from summer school courses for the summer of 2008.
If you fail a course here at Mac and the course is required, yes you have to do it again. If you fail a course and there are others that you can choose from then you must choose from those. Either way, you have to make up the units

I have a question that somewhat relates to this. I'm going into my first year in life sci and during course selection, physics 1B03 was full, therefore I decided that I'll take it in summer school at another university (since mcmaster is quite far for me to travel to during the summer months). Now where the confusion lies is that on the undergraduate calendar '08/'09, it said that in order for me to apply to my desired second year science majors, I will have to complete Physics 1B03 by the end of level 2. So if I do physics 1B03 in summer school at another university (on LOP), then does this mean that McMaster will not look at/accept my completion of the Physics 1B03 course in the summer? Does this mean that I will definitely HAVE to take Physics 1B03 ONLY AT MCMASTER in either 1st year or 2nd year in order for it to be accepted by McMaster for admission into my desired 2nd year majors? Or will my summer credit for Physics 1B03 be accepted? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Methinks you should contact your faculty office about that shine. I'm really not sure at all.

Yeah you have to contact your department about that because it depends on which university you take the class at. McMaster won't accept certain courses from certain universities. Talk to an academic advisor asap.

From what i know, i think you are still safe from it. You got your LOP approved already right?!?! B/c that is very importnat the course yo uare taking is approved as an equivalnet to the physics course.
Becuase the requirement to be in the 2nd year program is just a completion of the course,. I think it is fine. If it says "a grade of ___ in this class" then you might be in some trouble for having taken it on a LOP and might have to go through a more complicated process to get it approved. However, I think it should be fine b/c i'm taking a course now on LOP for a requirement for admissions to another program.
Definately go talk to your academic advisor to clarify! I think you are still fine. But then that's my opinion.

Hey,
I was thinking of taking my math course (1a03) in summer to ease my work load and also because I'm not fond of math. I'm going into Life Sciences, and currently have math in term one. Is that a good idea? Will it actually be helpful and easier in the summer?

Well when you take a summer course you're compressing the amount of time you have to complete the work in. Each semester during the year is 4 months, but during the summer a semester is 2 months and you have to complete the same amount of work.
If you have nothing else going on, no work, no volunteering and such you'll be fine because unlike during the year you don't have other classes to worry about (unless you take another class during the summer which can make things more difficult)
Remember that summer school grades do not count towards your end of the year GPA, only your cumulative.

Do you know how I can talk to/contact an advisor without going all the way to mac (I live many many hours away from campus). Can I just call the Dean or Associate Dean and ask them to connect me to an academic advisor for science (are there different academic advisors for each faculty/program, by the way?)? Or can I just directly call up mcmaster and ask them to transfer me to an advisor?

Calling is the best thing to do.. it's the closest thing to being in person and talking to them. Emailing can take forever, especially since that's the easiest option.. send them an email and wait. But then imagine how many people do send them emails. Check out the lists for academic advisors on the science faculty's website.. if not, call mac directly and they'll transfer you

for the faculty of science here are the contacts:
Student Inquiries
Phone 905-525-9140
Ext 27590
Email Questions to [email protected]
"technically" we do have our own academic advisors apparently for the year you are in, but it doesn't matter. They will all be able to answer your questions either way calling is the best and fastest way to get a responce. But make sure you have time to wait and stuff, cause it can take a long time if they are very busy good luck with that!
