				Windows 8.1

		Hey guys,

When Windows 8.1 gets released to retail stores on October 18, does that mean it will also be pre-installed on the new computers sold in stores? Or will they still have Windows 8 out of the box, and I would need to upgrade to 8.1 myself?

Probably will be a delay, doubt stores already got 8.1 machines.

Why does it matter tho? You can update Windows 8 to 8.1 for free. It says that on the official page at least.

I'm pretty sure they'd want to clear their current stock of 8.0 prior to buying machines with 8.1 on it, so you'd probably have to upgrade it yourself if you're planning on buying one anytime soon. But, upgrading it shouldn't be a problem, so.

Yea, I just wanted to see if there would be a difference buying a computer now versus after October 18.

I previously heard some rumors that it would be in 2015, and that there would be Windows 8.2 next year. Anyways, that's all subject to change now that Steve Ballmer is being replaced.

Windows upgrades are free, except between OS versions-- i.e. upgrading 7 to 8 will cost you $, but 8 to 8.1 is like a patch.

Yes, I know it is a free upgrade.
I just rather prefer that the manufacturer/retailer does the work to perform the upgrade, so that I can start using the computer immediately out of the box. Not to mention, the upgrade is a couple gigabytes.

The update is a couple of gigabytes, you can probably perform it in under 2 hours, for free.

The stores on the other hand can easily sell the new 8.1 machines at a higher price.

It's your money really, you want to pay more for having 8.1 sticker on your computer, go ahead.

I doubt they would increase the prices of computers with the minor upgrade, given the abysmal sales of Windows 8 computers.

I would only buy it when its on sale anyways.

Really? Tell that to apple users.

People are retards, they will often pay big money for minor upgrades.

Look at how many people bought the water proof iOS7 prank, really tells you something, doesn't it.

I'm not an Apple user, but I thought upgrading to iOS7 was free.
