Basic Cable T.V. In Res
Hey I'm living in hedden this year and I was wondering if I could get basic cable in my room. I just want up to channel 29. Do we have to pay extra or is their a cord I can just plug in?

YOu have to pay for the cable and the install unless you're in bates or keyes and then it comes with your res fees. It's not worth it since there's a TV in the common rooms on each floor.

And hamilton channels are different from Toronto and what not. (ie: much music is not 29)

DC++ is a file sharing program for students in residence. Everyone just shares their movies, music, etc. So there is alot of stuff to download and watch. There is an article coming up on it soon.

Is there a way to get free cable in residence? (using an antenna?)

Agreed, but after they went from 3 games every saturday morning to just one, some weeks aren't even worth watching.

Thank someone for the high level of play in the premier league.

By definition, you're not getting cable if you're using an antenna. But yes, you can theoretically use an antenna for free, but you're probably only going to get 2 channels - Hamilton's CHCH (which is now an E! affiliate), and maybe CTV from Toronto.

i dont even think you can use an antenna anymore, didnt all the channels recently just go digital, therefore antennas no longer work? maybe im confused with something else.

You're probably thinking of the American digital TV transition, which most Americans are also confused about :p

Basically, as of Feb. 17, 2009, all analog over-the-air broadcasts will end in the US. This means that anyone in the US that uses an antenna to receive TV signals needs to make sure their TVs have digital tuners, or else they won't see anything. The majority of TVs sold in the last few years do have digital tuners, and older TVs can easily add a digital-to-analog converter box that just screws onto the antenna cable that goes into the back of your TV.

In Canada a similar thing will happen, but we don't have to worry about that until at least 2011 (or later - even that date may be pushed back still).
