It's a cultural thing, Canadian culture makes marriage seem less important then other cultures. I'm not sure why but in Canada marriage seems like a joke. Where I come from marriage isn't treated like a disease, so yeah to me marriage is important. The divorce rate is high because people are immature when the get married and not mature enough to solve problems that come up in the marriage later on. The easiest solution is marriage, but its also the lazy way out.

I'd say get married when you have a stable job plus marriage = less income tax (big plus)

lol sucks to be them then, to let fear of God stopping them from getting a divorce.

A more useful statistic would be what percentage of people who have gotten a divorce regret getting married in the first place.

Yes and no... who's to say?

What it really comes down to is that it seems to work for some but not others. (Look at 60% of first marriages working but the rate plummeting for people who have been in multiple marriages) Basically I think some people understand the reasons for getting married and how to make a relationship work and others are missing one or both of those things.

i am beyond excited to get married !
can't wait, my friends will tell you that about me. haha
I think a lot of people just get married in the moment or without knowing what they want or what they are truly getting into.

The concept of marriage isn't outdated, its just confused. People are too consumed with what they see in the media. In my opinion, people feel like their lives should be, or are supposed to be, like the celebrities they see on reality TV shows or whatever else it is. People think they're more mature than they are and jump into things faster and younger than they should. I also think a lot of people are misguided when it comes to how people want to be treated. Love children, multiple partners and multiple divorces seem glorified and "okay" by the media. We're so used to seeing that sort of thing on the news and about people that we constantly and religiously follow (like the Kardashians) that we're almost desensitized to it all.
Oh well, everyone's reality is different and I'm sure marriage isn't for everyone. Not everyone wants to get married or should be expected to. For myself, I'd love to get married one day when the time's right!
