Cracked laptop screen
Hi,

The side of my laptop screen is cracked and I was wondering if anyone knows how or where to get it fixed.

Thanks

You could start by looking for any local offices for the manufacturer... probably a support number somewhere.

Depending on how old and expensive your laptop is, it might make more sense to replace the entire thing. It'd probably be cheaper to replace a low-end 1-year old laptop than to fix the screen.

What's the make and model number? Where we recommend depends on the manufacturer.

Call up the manufacturer and see how much it will cost to replace the screen. Depending on the price it may be cheaper to buy a new one.

also check ebay.ca. You'd be surprised at how specific an item you can find. I found a brand new keyboard for my laptop after a beverage accident. Some guy just happened to be selling the keyboard from the exact same model and it was brand new for 30bucks (canadacomputers said they'd order one for me but it would cost 100 bucks to do it, plus they charge you to install it when its too easy to do yourself)

Normally you pay through the teeth for specific parts to a laptop.

Ebay like said before, and get someone tech savvy to help you install it. Fun times, a great learning experience.

my 3 year old toshiba satellite cracked last year, and the manufacturer, best buy, and computer stores told me it would cost $300 to replace the screen...and $400 for a new laptop...so it was basically better to just go new.

it totally depends on whether you're still under warranty, but you should assume you'll be buying a new one

It depends how much does it cost to repair in a manufacturer's repair center. My Asus's notebook's screen had multiple deadlines appeared. Since it's within in warrenty, they offered a free repair and free shipping to their repair center in Markham. They even changed the whole keyboard since I also noted the '6' key is slightly loose. (Repair was nice but the shipping arrangement was horrible though)

But yea before paying for anything, check if you're still covered under warranty by the reseller or manufacturer. Depending on the make and brand, it may be covered.

For instance, my asus laptop's chipset pooped out but was covered for a year so repairs were free with any asus certified and official retailers/service centre.

But usually when something as big as this, it's usually cheaper to buy a new one than to get repairs.
