I know Simon.
And I don't think because of the (so-called) sketchiness of other places, 128Q can just jack up their prices....
or expect good business!

I would hardly call Westend or other establishments sketchy. I wonder how much money they've lost in the past years?

Ah Okay I misunderstood what you were implying! What I meant was that the only reason "officially"(aka from the Election's office) the proclamation isn't out yet is because there was disagreement between the speaker and bylaws commissioner last Sunday regarding the re-election period for Fall! I think it has to be out 3 weeks before election day
But yeah unofficially the SRA members do some responsibility to promote the vacancy as much as possible! Rohan covered one possible theory as to why that probably doesn't happen :S

I somewhat agree/disagree with you! I haven't been to WestEnd but it would make complete sense if 1280 charges a premium on food prices. They did After all spend 375k over the summer making it look like an upscale establishment. But that begs the question how much monetary value is placed on a) Quality of Service(aka proper student servers and none of the so called "sketchy" characters") b) No Sketchy Patrons c) Proper Seating, Lighting and other environmental factors that improve the overall visual experience of your visit d) The fact that it is on campus and not a 10 minute trek e) The knowledge that hypothetically any profits(stop laughing at the back!) will go towards other student services rather then an owner. As an Economist I am willing to bet that there are a number of people who place a considerable amount of "value" over these factors.
BUT the question is: Is this extra monetary value able to balance the losses in value caused by a) Bad food(Comparitively to Rival Establishments and B) Slow or non existant service or C) The food is priced above a certain threshold of value someone is willing to pay for it or D) The personal value of Time spent dining at 1280 for hypothetically better food and "dining" is greater then grabbing something of inferior quality from La Piazza or Commons and eating in cafeteria(where there is a lack of space and not the same social experience if you are out with company)
Hence if some of the comments regarding bad service and low quality food are true as a random sample then then chances are our equation is ending up in the negative!
I wish I knew the Weightage given to the aforementioned factors in market research/food service economics. I will try looking it up though!
p.s: Yes I Just spent 3 hours in an Economics Lecture

Being a thrifty student, and one to enjoy my westend wings, i will gladly wait for a bus from campus or take the short walk to get there!!
though some of the daytime waitresses are rather rude to anyone under 40

I was just saying this to my boyfriend at 1280 the other day. I would to see some McMaster stuff on the walls - alumni football jerseys, Mac banners or something.

i totaly agree, 1280 just looks like any other place with no real personality.
i understand it's trying to put out a new look and all, but for a university pub it lacks school spirit.

Excellent. I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like in November (I figured I'd give them two months to get things straightened out and finish the construction).

I just went today for the engineers' academic flush... well... we were put behind a wall. That kind of sucked.
Also, the speakers are still not restrained and could again fall. Negligence.
Also also, the receipts say "Twelve Eighty". Seriously. Identity crisis much? WHAT IS YOUR NAME??? 1280? 128Q? TwelvEighty? Twelve Eighty??!
Good lord.

No, they are restrained and they have been pretty much since the repairs from the accident that happened during the Rep Toga Party.
The steel brackets are on the backside of the speakers... they aren't going anywhere.

I should have taken a picture of the back as well, I guess. There was nothing there either.
I can do that for you this week if you like.

umm.. they are permanently fastened... they don't magically disappear on a whim, especially since the speakers have yet to be moved...
the reason it wasnt done before was because the speakers were moved during reno and Avtek hadn't fastened them back before rep kickoff.
